Tests we do in our practice

ECG

ECG provides an electrical map of the heart by applying electrodes on the surface of the chest to detect your heart's rhythm.

Stress Echocardiogram

A stress echocardiogram allows your doctor a more visual view of your heart. An echocardiogram creates still and moving pictures of your heart at rest by bouncing sound waves off the heart from a device called a transducer. The waves are then used to create a picture of your heart. During a stress echocardiogram, your doctor will perform an echocardiogram while you are resting and then again after you have exercised on a treadmill. The information allows the doctor to learn more about the muscles, valves and other structures of the heart.  The benefits and risks of performing this test will be explained to you prior to commencement.  A copy of our information and consent form for stress echocardiogram is available below.

Exercise Stress Test (Stress ECG or Stress Test)

A stress ECG is basically an ECG that is performed while the patient is exercising on a treadmill. It allows your doctor to see how your heart functions under stress and tells him how healthy your heart is.  The benefits and risks of performing this test will be explained to you prior to commencement.  A copy of our information and consent form for stress testing is available below.

Trans-thoracic echocardiogram/cardiac ultrasound

An echocardiogram creates still and moving pictures of your heart at rest by bouncing sound waves off the heart from a device called a transducer. The waves are then used to create a picture of your heart.  The information allows the doctor to learn more about the muscles, valves and other structures of the heart.

Holter Monitor/Arrhythmia investigation

If you or your Doctor are concerned that you may have a heart rhythm abnormality, we perform 24 and 72hr cardiac monitoring (Holter Monitors) to help identify any abnormal cardiac rhythms.   Patients requiring further invasive Electrophysiological assessment are referred usually to Prince of Wales or Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Hypertension/blood pressure control

If you or your Doctor are concerned that you may have high blood pressure, we offer 24hr ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in the form of a cuff which is designed for you to wear whilst you conduct your normal daily activities.  Occasionally, blood pressure measurements taken in a Doctor's office may induce anxiety, resulting in "white coat syndrome".  24hr blood pressure monitoring can give a more accurate assessment of your day and night-time blood pressure fluctuations.
